Which part of Hakone is yours?

Hakone is a collection of places, not a single station. Start with the journey you would enjoy, then open the matching part of the map and compare the stays there.

What would you like to wake up to?

Yumoto & Tonosawa

A simple arrival, a river-valley stay

Start here if you want a straightforward first night after Tokyo, with time for the ryokan itself.

Getting there
Hakone-Yumoto is the rail gateway. Tonosawa and the more distant inns still need their own final-leg plan.
The trade-off
The area name is not a walking-distance promise. Select a sourced walk or shuttle from the station.

For a straightforward first arrival

Hakone-Yumoto is the direct Romancecar destination from Shinjuku and has shops and places to eat around the station. We would start here when the priority is a simple arrival and an evening devoted to the ryokan.

Compare the last leg separately: an inn in Tonosawa or the wider Yumoto area may need a bus, shuttle or longer walk. The station filter shows routes that have actually been recorded.

Stays with a route from Hakone-Yumoto

For art and the railway journey

Miyanoshita, Kowakidani and Gora sit along the mountain-railway journey from Hakone-Yumoto. The Open-Air Museum and Gora’s onward cable-car connection make this a useful area to consider for a two-day plan.

Choose the actual access route after choosing the setting. A property marketed with “Gora” in its name can have a different nearest stop or an uphill final approach.

For grasslands and a different pace

Sengokuhara’s grasslands and museums offer a different focus from the station towns. Build the day around the particular museum or landscape you want to see, then choose a hotel whose bus or shuttle route works with it.

Ubako and the northern lake approach are nearby on a regional map, but should not be treated as the same arrival point. Match the stop named by the property.

For a lake-centred stay

Lake Ashi brings the cruise and the Moto-Hakone/Hakone Shrine area into the picture. Choose a shore as well as a hotel: Togendai connects to the ropeway, while Moto-Hakone and Hakone-machi have different port and bus arrangements.

A possible Fuji view is a bonus, not a dependable itinerary. Pick a stay you would enjoy on a cloudy day too, and use the property’s room information for the view from the room itself.
